Tungnath Yatra Registration :

To embark on the Tungnath Yatra, you need to first register yourself through the official website of the Uttarakhand Tourism Department. The registration process entails providing your personal details along with the date and time of your proposed trek. A nominal fee is charged, and you will receive a confirmation email with a registration code.

Story of Tungnath: 

It is one of the Panch Kedar and is thought to have been from a time nearly 1000 years ago. Arjuna, the third of the Pandava brothers, laid the groundwork for this shrine. It was created in the North Indian architectural style and is surrounded by a dozen temples to various Gods.

History Of Tungnath Mandir:

Lord Shiva and his wife, Parvati, are both said to live in the Himalayas, with Lord Shiva at Mount Kailash. Parvati, also known as Shail Putri, translates as “daughter of the hills.” The Tungnath Temple has long been associated with the origin of the Pandavas’ Panch Kedar temples.

How to Reach Tungnath :

It is located on the Gopeshwar-Guptkashi route and connects Kedarnath to the Badrinath Shrine.

  • Air Route – The nearest airport to Tungnath is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. Tungnath is 233 kilometres away.
  • Road Route– To reach Tungnath Temple, you must trek 3.5 kilometres from Chopta. The distance from Kund Gopeshwar Road to Chopta is 212 kilometres.
  • Rail Route– Rishikesh is the closest railhead to Tungnath Temple, located 205 kilometres away.

Tungnath Trek Distance :

Route From Rishikesh via Devprayag, Srinagar and Rudraprayag. Chopta is the starting point for your Tungnath trek. The road to Chopta is just below this ridge and the shortest bridle path for trekking to the temple from Chopta, covering only about 5 Km that can be completed in 4-5 hours depending on the physical ability of the trekker.

It is located at an altitude of 2600 metres in the Uttarakhand district of Rudraprayag and about 2 kilometres below the 3,690-meter-high Chandrashila Peak.

Tungnath has two to three eateries that serve Maggie, Tea, Dal, Rice, and also seasonal vegetables available for trekkers and pilgrims. Non-vegetarian food and alcohol are strictly prohibited at Tungnath temple.

Tungnath Weather :

The Tungnath Yatra is best undertaken between May to November, as during this time of the year, the temperature is mild and the weather is pleasant. However, it is always recommended to carry warm clothes, as the temperature can drop significantly at night or in case unexpected weather conditions arise.
