Kedar Nath is a majestic temple nestled in the lap of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. This historical temple holds immense significance for Hindus as it is one of the holy shrines revered as a part of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. Although the route to Kedar Nath is challenging, the journey to reach this holy shrine is a test of one’s resilience and devotion. This year, the Kedar Nath Yatra 2023 is expected to begin in April and end in November. In this blog, we will take a closer look at the history, significance, and timings of this holy pilgrimage.

Kedarnath History: Origins of this Sacred Temple

Kedar Nath has a rich history dating back to the times of the Mahabharata. It is believed that the Pandavas upon their victory in the Kurukshetra war, wanted to atone for the sin of killing their own kin. They sought Lord Shiva’s blessings and found him at a place called Kedarkhand, later known as Kedarnath. Over time, the temple was destroyed by natural calamities and was later restored by the revered saint Shankaracharya in the 8th century. It is believed that the temple still has the same idol that the Pandavas worshipped.

Kedarnath Yatra: A Dream for every devotee

The Kedar Nath Yatra is a challenging journey as the temple is located at a height of 3,583 meters above sea level. The trek to the temple is 14 kilometres long, and one can either opt for a pony, a palanquin, Kedar or a Nath trek Yatra on 2023: foot.

Road Route start from Haridwar- Rishikesh-Shivpuri-Byasi-Devprayag-Srinagar-kalyasaur-Rudraprayag-Chrapuri-Phata-Sonprayag.

When you reach Sonprayag you need to park your car in the Parking and if you travelling by bus last stop is Sonprayag then you need to travel by sharing a jeep or car to reach Gauri Kund.

Starting point is Gauri Kund, the journey is around 23 kilometres long; before, it was 16 kilometres long, but due to the 2013 floods, the new path is significant. There are no bypasses to reach the temple on the same day. You need to stay. You can stay in a tent at a lower price than the base camp.
